Ctg fire razes salt industries

Valuables worth about Tk 40 lakh were gutted by a fire that broke out at three salt industries at Narikaltala in Chittagong city Tuesday.

The fire service and civil defence sources said the fire originated from a short-circuit around 12:30pm and soon engulfed Bibi Salt Industry, Desh Salt Crushing Industry and Karnaphuli Salt Industry at Narikaltala of Majhirghat under Double-Mooring police station.

Mohammed Jashim Uddin, deputy assistant director at Agrabad Fire Station, said seven firefighting units rushed in and doused the blaze after an hour’s effort.

The estimated loss was more than Tk 40 lakh, he added.
