Fake policemen, carjackers held in city

The police arrested five fake policemen, three carjackers and two motorcycle snatchers from different areas of the capital during Friday morning to Saturday noon.

Two police uniforms, two pairs of handcuffs, two wireless sets, a microbus, a private car, a motorcycle and a signal light were also seized from their possession, said Ramna police officer-in-charge Shah Alam.

The detainees are Rustom Ali Hawlader, 57, Saju Mia, 30, Babul, 30, Mosaddeque Ali Makhon, 38, Afjal Hossain, 40, Abul Kashem, 24, Shah Alam, 28, Munna, 18, Razib, 25, and Atiar Hossain Majid, 24.

The police said they arrested two fake policemen from the capital’s Ramna area at around 11:35pm on Friday and three from South Keraniganj while others were held at Kakrail and Jatrabari.

One of the detainees, Rustom, said at the police station that after he had fled from Bangladesh Army, he started fish trading at Soarighat but recently he started snatching in the guise of a policeman.
