A worker of Golden Bricks was killed in a landslide
at Kumira of Sitakunda in Chittagong
Wednesday noon.
The police and local people said the workers of
Golden Bricks were removing soil from an
adjacent hill near the International Islamic University Chittagong at about
midday.
A huge chunk of the hill collapsed on them.
Sawkat Hossain, assistant director of the fire service
and civil defense in Chittagong,
said they had started rescue operation soon after the incident and recovered
the body of an unidentified worker from the spot at about 6:00pm.
Samiul Islam, officer-in-charge of the Sitakunda
police station, said the police, in association with the workers of the brick
kiln, rescued a man from under the collapsed soil.
‘The rescued worker has informed that at least two
of his co-workers have remained trapped,’ the OC said, adding that rescue
operation was going on to find out if any more people had been trapped.
