Suspected robber lynched in Gazipur

A suspected robber was killed in mob beating at Nuapara Barohor of Kaliganj upazila in Gazipur early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Faruqe Hossain, 30, son of Shajahan Mia at village Chandpur of Kapasia in the district.

Police and local sources said a group of 7/8 robbers tried to loot valuables from the passengers of vehicles by blocking the road with trees.

Local people chased the group and at one point they caught Faruqe and beat him up while others fled.

Faruqe was rushed to Kaliganj Sadar Hospital, where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Kaliganj police officer-in-charge Abdul Baten Mia said Faruqe was a listed criminal and was accused in several robbery cases filed with the Kaliganj and Kapasia police stations.

The body was sent to Gazipur Hospital morgue.
