16th death anniv of Khairul Kabir today



Khairul Kabir, the founder editor of Bangla daily Sangbad, will be remembered today at his 16th anniversary of death.
A milad mahfil will be held at his parental home at Ghorashal of Narshingdi on the occasion, said a release.
As a close associate of the country’s founding president, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Kabir was one of the authors of the historic six-point of Awami League during the 1960s.
He played a key-role in establishing a number of institutions in the country, the release added.
He was one of the founders and the first life member of National Press Club.
He was also the first chairman and managing director of Janata Bank and the first vice-chairman of Union Bank Limited.
Khairul Kabir served as the first managing director of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation.
He died in Singapore on February 7, 1997.
