Fire kills minor girl in Ctg

A minor girl was roasted alive and two sustained injuries as a devastating fire broke out at 12 houses at Purba Gomdandi of Boalkhali upazila in Chittagong Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Naima Akhter, 3, daughter of Mohammed Jabed, resident at Banglapara of Purba Gomdandi, and the injured was identified as Babul, 35.

The fire service and civil defense sources said the fire originated from an oven in a tin-shed kitchen in the village at around 9:30pm and soon spread to the nearby 11 houses.

Jashim Uddin, deputy assistant director at the fire service in Chittagong, said two of their units doused the fire after an effort of about four hours.

He said Naima was trapped inside the house and roasted alive and her body was recovered after the fire was put out.

The fire fighters said one Babul was also injured during the fire incident, while he was trying to extinguish the fire at the initial stage.

Valuables worth around Tk 20 lakh were damaged in the incident.
