Alleged robber lynched in N’ganj



An alleged robber was lynched and another was injured by a mob at Sulpina village in Rupganj of Narayanganj early Friday.

The deceased was identified as  Raja Mia, 40, of Barura upazila in Comilla but the identity of the injured could not be  known yet as he was undergoing treatment in Dhaka Medical College Hospital in an  unconscious state.

Locals said that a gang of robbers in the small hours on Friday forced their way into the house of one Salauddin Mia in the village and made off with  25 tola gold ornaments, Tk 16,000 in cash and six  mobile phones.

The robbers beat up the house owner Salauddin and his brother Kamaluddin when they tried to resist them.

As the robbers were making their way out, the women of the house raised alarm. Hearing the screams neighbour came to the spot, ringed the robbers and started beating them up.

Most of the robbers, who were 20-25 in number, managed to flee but two of them were caught by the villagers.

Raja Mia died on the spot and his accomplice was injured critically.

Rupganj police officer-in-charge Atiqur Rahman confirmed the incident.
